New Year, New Beginnings – How to Set Intentions for a Life-Centred Business

For me the start of a new year feels like a deep breath of fresh air—a chance to reflect, reset, and reimagine what’s possible. For many of us, January isn’t just about turning the page; it’s about grabbing the pen and writing a new chapter. If you’ve ever felt torn between your dreams and the demands of life, this is the moment to take back the narrative and create a business that works for you—not the other way around. 🌟

This isn’t about hustle culture or chasing someone else’s version of success. It’s about building something sustainable, flexible, and true to who you are. I want to show you how to set meaningful intentions that align with your values, translate them into actionable steps, and craft a life-centred business that brings purpose, balance, and joy.

1. The Power of Intentions

Intentions are the heartbeat of a fulfilling journey. Unlike rigid resolutions, which often demand perfection, intentions allow for flexibility and growth. They’re not about checking boxes but about aligning your actions with your deepest values.

For instance, instead of saying, “I want to make £10k a month,” you might say, “I want to build a business that allows me to provide for my family while still being present for school runs, bedtime stories, and Sunday lunches.” See the shift? It’s about creating a framework for success that nurtures both your ambitions and your soul.

When life inevitably throws you curveballs—because it will—intentions keep you grounded. They remind you why you started in the first place and help you pivot with grace instead of burning out.

2. Steps to Set Your Intentions for 2025

Reflect on the Past Year

Before you can move forward, it’s essential to pause and take stock. Grab a journal or a cuppa (or both) and ask yourself:  Why?

Personally, I think back to moments where I juggled parenting, running a 6-figure business and trying to look after myself. Some days felt like total chaos, but within that chaos, I discovered my resilience and my “why.” It’s this clarity that helps guide my intentions.

Identify Your “Why”

Your “why” is the fuel that keeps your fire burning. It’s the reason you’re reading this right now, dreaming about something more. For me, my “why” was showing my children that you can rise from the ashes—that no matter what life throws at you, you have the power to rebuild on your own terms. Write it down. Make it visible. Let it be your compass.

Break Down Your Goals into Actionable Steps

Big dreams are exciting, but they can also feel overwhelming. The key is to break them down into small, actionable steps. Let’s say your intention is: “I want to create a flexible business that supports my family.”

Tools like my free guide to help you start a life-centred business can provide the structure you need to take that first step with confidence.

3. Creating Alignment Between Your Business and Your Life

Let me share a little secret: success isn’t just about hitting numbers; it’s about waking up each day feeling proud of the life you’re building. When I started Virtuella 5 years ago it wasn’t just about entrepreneurship. It was about proving to myself and my kids that we could thrive. I didn’t want to choose between being present for them and pursuing my ambitions—I wanted both.

Ask yourself these questions as you design your business: 💡

When you build from a place of alignment, the journey feels less like a grind and more like a calling.

This January, give yourself the gift of dreaming big and starting small. You deserve a business that supports your values, nurtures your passions, and honours the life you’re creating for yourself and your family. Setting intentions isn’t just about achieving milestones—it’s about becoming the person who confidently pursues them.  This is the reason I started The Phoenix Guild.  I want to empower as many women as possible to take back control of their future.
